A Longstanding Name Being Upgraded: Mercedes-Benz

A long standing name that's being upgraded: Mercedes-Benz

Over the past several decades the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been a model that we’ve loved and admired for its large size and the quality offered to be one of the most impressive off-road SUVs that can head out on the road and on the trails. This isn’t an SUV that we’ve seen upgraded often over the history of this SUV, but we have seen this be an SUV that is put to crazy proportions and used to show off the pure power and rumbling aggression that comes from an SUV that’s taken a lot more testosterone than it should have.

With the thought that the G-Class is a vehicle that doesn’t get changed often, only upgraded, it appears we’re about to see this amazing model changed to enter a new generation that will make this an SUV that continues to be what we expect. Spy shots have captured the G-Class testing in a heavy covering of camouflage, but you can’t hide the fact that this is a large and brutish SUV, even when you put the coverings on. Let’s take a look at what the G-Class may bring for the future of this historically amazing SUV.

The New G-Class Rides

With the market that tends to call for smaller SUVs that are more active, agile, and dynamic, Mercedes-Benz hasn’t given the G-Class the unibody treatment, thankfully. This new version of the SUV that’s shown in the spy shots is one that shows up wider than the one we currently have on the market which increases the cargo and interior passenger space. There are expected to be new powertrain options for this SUV as well to make sure we can have the power we want to when it’s time to have the ride desired on the roads and trails.

We will see a new high-performance AMG variation for the ride and base models that are expected to improve the fuel mileage of this SUV. Up front, one of the few details we can actually see in the spy photos is the new Panamericana grill to give us a dynamic look of what this SUV might bring in the form of style. There may be more tech in the cabin, but we didn’t see what it will be and will have to wait until this SUV makes its way to the market in the near future.

The expectation is that we will see the new G-Class in its production form at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Once this show arrives it will be time to see what this class model has for us to enjoy as it turns to a new generation and becomes a model that we’re going to admire and want for the drive on the roads and trails. If you’ve been waiting to purchase a G-Class for yourself, you might want to wait a bit longer and see what the next generation version will offer when it’s time for you to have the ride you want on the trails.
