The Kia brand is ready to offer us a look at some impressive new technology. The latest offering is a model that could be the autonomous driving model.
In the past, it felt like you only saw cars at car shows and that’s where you would learn more about the new technology that’s going to be part of what the automaker has for the drive you want to experience on the road. In the world of today, the new technology offered is put in front of the tech experts at the Consumer Electronics Show when the technology of a vehicle is the main point of emphasis for the crowds to evaluate before it heads to the car shows.
It also helps that the CES is a week before the Detroit Auto Show this year. Because of this, many automakers, including Kia, are making their way to the CES 2018 show to give us a look at the new items they’ve added to the mix to give us a look at a new vehicle that will be perfect for the drive. The brand that gives us the Sportage, Optima, Soul, and Sorento is ready to show off a new concept vehicle that will offer us another look at what autonomous driving could be for the near future.
The New Kia Concept
This new electric car concept model is based on the Niro crossover SUV that will show off what this team has accomplished. This crossover is bringing the strength of an efficient battery-electric powertrain to be the one that represents a new step in the right direction for this brand and allows us to see the direction they are going with the electric vehicles made.
This impressive little concept will also offer us a new item that’s being called “Human-Machine Interface” or HMI. This is a technology that Kia hasn’t offered us in the past in any of the cars we drive. Even though we don’t have the details of what HMI will be it’s expected to be centered around a large touchscreen to allow you to change the settings and drive modes and a new motion graphic lighting system that might be another item that’s part of the future of driving.
Beyond the Drive
This brand will also give us a look at the autonomous vehicle strategy they have put together which is being called “Beyond Autonomous Driving” to give us a look at what Kia has in mind for the future of driving along with three cockpit displays that could show various ways the new technologies are incorporated in the cabin area. With the movement toward virtual reality, self-driving cars, full connectivity by a vehicle, and a rapid movement toward EV models, Kia appears to be poised to move more of this technology into the lineup.
It will be interesting to see how Kia incorporates these items into the current lineup to give us a Sportage with an EV powertrain, an Optima that can drive itself, or a Sedona that makes use of HMI for the future. These are certain things we should think about as we see these new Kia models offered at the CES 2018 show.
