We’re pretty well aware that automotive generations only take place for a short period of time, typically seven to ten years is about the max. Even so, it feels like an automaker would typically take a break from the development of a model when it’s recently added to the market, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the largest sedan in the Buick lineup. The LaCrosse is a car that offers the comfort you want and premium materials to enjoy and now it’s been out testing for the next generation.
The most recent generation of the Buick LaCrosse arrived on dealership lots in 2016 as the 2017 model year of the LaCrosse. That means this current version of the car is one that’s only been on the market for two model years and is about to enter it’s third. With this youth in the generation, it seems the LaCrosse would be a car that doesn’t need to be upgraded any time soon, but Buick has other ideas and has been testing what is anticipated to be a model that will hopefully make its way to the market for the 2020 model year.
Testing Hasn’t Revealed Much for Us to Talk About
More and more automakers are getting out in front of different generational changes for the cars that we want to drive with years of development before we see the models make it to production. It seems there’s no rest for the weary when it comes to automotive design, development, and engineering. As you know, the LaCrosse is a handsome and large sedan that gives us the feeling of luxury on the road without being offered at such a high price that it’s limited to only a small number of buyers.
The version of the LaCrosse that made its way to the test track showed up with what appears to be a brand new front fascia, even though we couldn’t see it at all because of the heavy camouflage covering that the car was wearing. The camo was covering the front and the rear of the car and it suggests the 2020 model might only receive a facelift, but it could also be a complete generational change that we see in this large sedan. While it was wearing coverings, the new LaCrosse may bring in some of the new style from the Regal models we see on the market already to take some design cues that can be added to the bumpers and front area of the car.
The fact that the Buick team is out on the track testing what should be a new car with upgrades gives us the positive feeling that the LaCrosse will continue to be a model offered for the future of driving. With some automakers taking sedans off the menu, this development allows us to know that’s not the direction for the Buick team and the LaCrosse you want to drive.
