Blazing a New Frontier

Blazing a New Frontier

If you were told a new Nissan Frontier would be offered on the market in the near future you would likely breathe a sigh of relief because the second generation of this mid-size pickup truck is already close to thirteen years old. This new truck will be on the market soon and it will be made in the same plant in Canton, MS as the previous version of the Frontier. Moving into the third generation brings about several questions as to what this new truck could be and what it will bring to the market for the drive we want.

Some Speculation About the Unknown

So far all we know is that there will be a new Frontier offered on the market. We don’t know what the platform will be that its built from and we have no idea of the timing of this truck going on sale. If the brand chooses to bring something to the market that’s a bit different from what we’ve seen since 2005, one choice would be to take a look at the Navara and retool it to be the next version of the Frontier that we’re going to want to drive.

The Nissan Navara is the global version of the Frontier that’s sold in many countries around the world but not in the US or Canada. This version was revealed three year ago, making it a decade newer than the current Frontier model which would make it a truck that’s easily much newer and more modern than what we have in the US right now. Unfortunately, the announcement of the new generation of the truck that will arrive on the market in the near future did not include any details regarding what this truck will become and how it will be built for our enjoyment on the road.

The Importance of the Announcement

One of the most important aspects of the announcement of this new truck being built is the fact that Nissan will continue to build it in Mississippi. Currently, Nissan employs 6,400 people at this plant and keeping it in Canton will aid the economy of the area. There are other models built at this plant including the Titan, Titan SD and NV work vans along with the Murano crossover SUV. The lower volume of the Frontier in the past couple years has shown a decline in production in the plant which the team hopes will increase with the addition of a new model.

The Navara has been a selling force around the world and with that information, there is evidence that it would make perfect sense for Nisan to make this the build used for the new Nissan Frontier. Until we see more of what the new Frontier will be, it will be hard to say whether Nissan used the Navara for the basis of this truck or not, but the decision to keep the truck in its current home and finally replace an aging model are both positive announcements from this global brand.
