A High Price for a Great Cause

A High Price for a Great Cause

Car auctions take place around the world on an annual basis and offer those who have the means to donate a large sum of money to a worthy cause in exchange for products that are rare and collectible, but maybe aren’t worth as much as the price that’s paid during the auction experience. The fact that a car can be sold for an amount of money that can make a huge difference to someone else can put a great feeling in the heart of the person who has the winning bid on an item.

Recently, a Ford GT model was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ and this car brought in a large sum of money. This model of the Ford GT isn’t one that came from the 1960s, and it’s not one that’s no longer in production, which makes it a mystery as to why this car was able to demand a price that was more than five times what the car retails for. In fact, it seems the person who had the winning bid should have chosen to contact Ford and purchase their own model form the company rather than pay an exorbitant price.

Why this Ford GT Sold at Such a High Price

The Ford GT that was sold at this auction is one that is pated in Liquid Blue which is the color we saw as this car made its way to the 2015 Detroit Auto show when it first surprised the world with what it was going to be. The car has white racing strips on it and red brake calipers. The wheels are a set of carbon fiber models that are options on most models and the serial number for this 2017 model is #0023 making it one of the earliest models sold.

The Ford team even added the Ford Performance Racing School GT Experience with this car, even though it’s technically not an all-new car that was sold. Why would a car that retails for less than $500,000 demand a price of $2.5 million at this auction? This car was donated to the Evernham Family-Racing team by Ron Pratte and all proceeds from the sale of this car benefit the Autism Society of IGNITE. This is a program based in North Carolina that offers activities, skills training, and educational workshops for young adults with high-functioning autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.

The main reason for the Ford GT to demand such a high price is the charity aspect of the sale of this car. The person who had the winning bid knows they just made a large donation to an extremely worthy organization to help those in need of the support and services of IGNITE. In exchange for such as healthy donation, the winning bidder has the joy of driving this early model of the Ford GT and the experience they can have when they attend the Ford Performance Racing School, which makes it possible for everyone to have a great feeling of what this car and its sale represents.
