With the winter months upon us, it seems there’s not much to look forward to beyond the holiday season. Thankfully, the team at Ford has given us a reason to look into January for another gift that doesn’t fit under the tree. The newest version of the most capable version of one of our favorite vehicles will make its debut at the final version of the winder Detroit Auto Show.
The Mustang Shelby GT500 has been Teasing us for Over a Year
Ford has done a masterful job of teasing us with this new model for over a year. Prior to the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, Ford launched a teaser video that claimed the new GT500 would show up with more than 700 horsepower under the hood. Even though this was the story a year ago, and many questions were put to the Ford execs in attendance, nothing more was offered. This only left us feeling confused and with a taste in our mouths for the new version of the GT500 that wasn’t ready to be offered a year ago.
More Teasers and Finally an Arrival
During the past year, Ford has continued to tease us with test mules, videos, and thoughts of what this car would be without a debut time until recently. Now that we know this car will show up on the stage in Detroit next month, it’s something special to look forward to. The expectation is that we will see a supercharged version of the 5.2-liter V8 engine that’s found under the hood of the GT350 to give us the power level we’re sure to love and enjoy.
The True Numbers Aren’t In for the Mustang Shelby GT500
After an initial promise of 700 horsepower for the Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford scaled it back a little to tell us there would be at least 650 ponies galloping under the hood of this amazing car. Now, we’ve heard anything from 670 horsepower to 750 ponies to give us an insane amount of power. The most important number is that this 4,200-pounds car just might be able to reach a top speed that’s extremely close to 200 mph. So far, this is the closest we’ve come to gain the information we want for this impressive car.
