Ranger - Ford is Pioneering the Return to Compact Trucks

The 1980s was a decade in which we saw a compact pickup truck offered by nearly every brand including the Ranger from Ford.

Today, the Ranger is a midsize truck and the midsize truck market is filled with models that are much larger than those compact trucks of the past. While the compact truck segment was forgotten and has been for a while, it may be time for this class of vehicles to return to the market.

A New Model from Ford

We’ve heard rumors that have been swirling around to let us have the idea that a new truck could be offered to the Ford brand. With the deletion of the sedans and cars from the Ford family, the need for another compact model is present. The vehicle in question will give us a truck that’s an alternative to the Ford Ranger, F-150, and Super Duty models to fill an area that’s been left behind. If Ford does bring back a new model and gives us something in the compact truck class to choose from, it’s likely we will see other brands follow suit.

What Makes a Compact Truck Make Sense?

The most popular segment of the automotive market right now is the SUV class and the most popular among SUVs is the compact crossover segment. This means we’re gravitating toward smaller SUVs and smaller vehicles to make sure we have the right size, efficiency, and capability on the road. If a compact truck class was created once again to give us more trucks to choose from and enjoy when it’s time for a drive, we could have small trucks that can carry a reasonable load and give us the efficiency and size we want to enjoy.

What Can We Expect in this New Ford

Right now, the planned timeline for a new truck is potentially the 2022 model year. Rumors have arisen that this new truck could be a unibody model that’s based on the platform of the fourth-generation of the Ford Focus. Right now, the Focus is only offered in overseas markets and we don’t know much about what this new truck will become when it comes to fruition if it does. If this is the build used for the new compact Ford truck it could drive like a car but have the features and qualities of a truck on the road.

Think About the Varieties that Could be this Truck

If this new compact model of a Ford truck shows up, we could see it offered as either an FWD or AWD model that can be enjoyed when we’re ready to drive. The name that could be used might be the Courier, which is a former Ford name that was used in the past. Hints of this name use have already arisen because Ford trademarked this name in the US to be used later as the name that we can enjoy in an upcoming vehicle.
