Where Will a New Mazda SUV Fit In?

Where Will a New Mazda SUV Fit In

The Mazda team found the perfect time to show us the rear of a new crossover they are planning to show off soon. The lights were down with nary a bulb in sight and we got to see the rear of this new SUV with its backlights only bright enough to give us the silhouette of the new vehicle’s rear end. Mazda will give us a full look at this new crossover at the Geneva Motor Show next month as it becomes a brand-new addition to the Mazda lineup for us to enjoy.

What is the new Addition to the Mazda Market?

While you could speculate where Mazda will place a new crossover SUV in the lineup, but the most realistic place in the market for this new model will be that it will likely be the next Mazda CX-3. This new vehicle will likely be a small and active crossover to take us to the new generation of the smallest SUV that Mazda offers for the 2020 model year. Even though this will likely be the second generation of the smallest Mazda SUV, you’ll see that there’s been some growth when this new version arrives.

Speculation Allows the CX-3 to Grow

If we assume the Mazda SUV that was teased is the new CX-3, we can see that it has grown in size compared to the one we have now. The current Mazda CX-3 rides on the Mazda2 platform but the upcoming model will use the new SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture that underpins the new Mazda3. This means we’re going to see a larger model as part of the lineup to give you an active and agile performer that has more room than it did in the past. This is one subcompact that’s going bigger than before.

What Will this Change do for Mazda?

With the assumption that the new model is the Mazda CX-3, we see that Mazda will be able to use this new platform for a variety of vehicles and allow us to have the build and the drive that we’re going to admire every day. The new CX-3 should make use of the same engine lineup as the Mazda3, which will eventually include the new SkyActiv-X engine that will give us the advanced engine technology that we want for our daily driving on the roads in our area.

Learn More Next Month

The Geneva Auto Show kicks off on March 5 and it’s the place where we will learn more about what this new Mazda SUV will be when its time. Once we see what it actually is at this show, we can understand exactly what Mazda was teasing us in this darkened photo. Until that time, we can hope that it will be a larger model of the Mazda CX-3 and imagine what a bit of growth in size can do for this compact SUV that we love to take out on the road and enjoy.
