The Toyota Mirai has been offered for several years as a hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle that gives us an exceptional alternative.
The trouble with gasoline has been well-documented with the air pollution caused, and electric vehicles simply take too long to charge. The Toyota Mirai and other FCEV models make it easy to fuel up like a gasoline car while offering only water vapor as the exhaust that’s expelled into the atmosphere when driving.

The Toyota Mirai is heading to a second generation for the 2021 model year and this car will have a large number of changes for you to admire and enjoy. A Different Drive from Toyota
Most of the hybrid models offered on the market use FWD as the way they go on the road. This is the easiest and cheapest way to offer you the power from the electric motor to the front wheels. The Toyota Mirai Concept strays from this to give you an RWD platform that’s much bigger than it was in the past. This new model uses a longer wheelbase and it’s wider than it was in the past to make sure you and your passengers can be more comfortable when you head out on the roads in your area.
The Drivetrain of the Toyota Mirai
The new fuel cell drivetrain of the Toyota Mirai will use a larger-capacity hydrogen fuel storage tank to give you the range you want between fill-ups. You can drive the Mirai nearly 312 miles on a full tank of hydrogen in the current model while the new version is expected to be rated at over 400 miles when you fill the hydrogen tanks and take this car for a drive. That’s certainly a range that rivals most of the gasoline cars that we currently drive on the road.
A Small but Growing Market
One reason you haven’t heard much about the Toyota Mirai in the past is due to the lack of infrastructure to support hydrogen vehicles. The FCEV models only have a few places to stop to refuel. Currently, there are 36 hydrogen refueling stations in California and one in Hawaii. This means these two states are the only places where the Mirai is currently sold. As more states begin to offer these stations, several are planned for the New England area for the next few years, we should see an expansion and growth in the sales of the Toyota Mirai.
