Kia Stinger & Hyundai Elantra N Go Head To Head: The Winner May Surprise You

Kia vs. Hyundai

Even though sedans don’t top the sales charts the way they used to, there are still a few stylish and sporty models out there gaining attention. For drivers who want something with some pep, the Kia Stinger GT and a new or used Hyundai Elantra N are incredible options that remind us why sedans still have a solid place in this market.

What happens when these two sedans go head to head? The results may not be exactly what you would expect.

The Kia Stinger GT

The newest Stinger is considered a midsize sedan that comes in three trims. The entry-level GT is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers who want to step up their drive should explore the GT1 or GT2 trims. Both of these models come with an upgraded 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 368 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.

The sleek design of the Stinger makes this sedan look like it should be super-fast.

The Hyundai Elantra

Both new and used Hyundai Elantra N options are also considered midsized sedans. The N model is considered the top-of-the-line trim. Base-level Elantra cars come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 147 horsepower.

The Elantra N is loaded with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes a solid 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Stinger GT, the Elantra can also be purchased with a six-speed manual transmission. If you find a used Hyundai Elantra N on the market, it will produce similar specs.

Considering that the N trim is part of Hyundai’s high-performance line, this ride should handle itself well on the track.

Start Your Engines

To put these two sedans to the test, they participated in two races. The first put the two up against each other at a starting line. When the race started, the Stinger jumped off the line and took a sizable lead. This wasn’t much of a surprise to onlookers. What caught everyone’s attention was how the Elantra kept pace with the Stinger. It even gained on it just before crossing the finish line.

The second race had both cars start from a rolling position. The Stinger was again able to get a better start, but it couldn’t actually pull away. The Elantra was able to keep the pace with the Stinger, and the two crossed the finish line at virtually the same time.

The results of these two races surprised those who looked only at the performance specs. The Stinger’s larger engine produces much more horsepower than does the Elantra N’s engine. This disparity might make you think that the Stinger would win every race by a mile. The Stinger weighs about 700 pounds more than the Elantra N, which plays into the results. While the Elantra can’t jump off the line as fast, it proves that it’s able to keep up. It might even win a longer race where it has time to get going.

If you’re looking for a luxury sedan that has plenty of power, a new or used Hyundai Elantra N or Kia Stinger is a great option. Stop by your local dealership to schedule a test drive.
