The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has become where we see many of the next anticipated automobile innovations.
There’s much more than mobility for the car you want to drive. This vehicle becomes your office, entertainment, place to relax, and the luggage hauler you need. When you move, your lifestyle goes along with you. With this in mind, we need to see what should come next in this industry. Will your car do much more in the future than it does not give you the fully immersed experience you want to enjoy?
Computer Development Shall Continue
The digital mixture of items you see in front of you will continue to grow and transform your overall driving experience. Eventually, you won’t need to be in the driver’s seat. We already have semi-autonomous systems, giving you an easy way to drive with your hands off the wheel for some of the distance you need to go. Computerization will continue to grow, and we’ll see more technology added to the various vehicles we drive. Let’s look at some of the items in this category shown at CES.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon Digital Chassis
Qualcomm had its booth at this show to look at a new Snapdragon Digital Chassis, which brings a slew of technology automotive innovations together to offer the precision needed when driving on any road. This chassis packs the following together:
- Auto Connectivity Platform for LTE
- 5G Connected Services
- Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth and precise positioning
- Digital cockpit and infotainment system
We already know that Volvo and Honda intend to integrate this digital cockpit into upcoming electric vehicles to bring this technology into the cars they drive.
Drive Orin SoC
The systems on a chip function (SoC) of the Drive Orin package will be part of the TuSimple electric autonomous trucking start-up that brings power and scale to this technology. The Nvidia chip is a central computer for intelligent vehicles made for independent applications. This system can deliver 254 trillion operations per second and offer the total power needed for self-driving vehicles. Will we see this particular system make its way to the passenger cars we drive and enjoy every day? This is the next generation of automation and brings Level 4 autonomous driving capability to the market.
Intel-Mobileye Super Computer
The Mobileye technology is now a subsidiary of Intel which plans to bring a new supercomputer to the market to give some autonomous driving power to various passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs. This company showed up at CES with a chip called EyeQ Ultra, which is now a purpose-built item for autonomous driving. This new computer can process 176 trillion operations per second, making it fast enough to become a fully independent system that will allow cars to drive on any road without a solid drive. How long will it be before fully autonomous passenger vehicles are on the road? This could be one of the greatest automotive innovations of the next few years.
Everything Gets Connected with Automotive Innovations
All of the information you need and the activities you enjoy can be aided by connected technology. Instead of a sci-fi world where the machines take over, you can have your connected vehicle improve your life by ordering the pizza you want to eat when you get home, checking your future EV’s battery power, or hearing some fantastic music during a break. Your connected ride gives you everything, and everything becomes connected.
Going Google with Volvo
The current infotainment systems of various cars use the Android Auto operating system, but Google has something more for you. The Google Home ecosystem and your new Volvo car can work together to give you the utterly connected world you’re looking for. You’ll have a comfortable car when you head out for a drive, and all you have to do is tell the Google Assistant to start the vehicle and fantastic or heat it to your desired temperature. BMW is getting into the mix with a digital car key, enabling you to lock and unlock the car quickly.
Amazon Turns Your Car into Your Living Room
Amazon isn’t a newcomer to the CES crowd, and this year they showed up with an Amazon Alexa Assistant with the power of the Amazon Fire TV streaming platform into the vehicle you want to drive. You can enjoy hanging out in your car while watching the shows you love, and anything else programmed into your Amazon system. Using the Alexa platform, all you have to do is speak the commands, and you can lean back and enjoy the show or let your kids watch their favorite programs with one of the top automotive innovations.
Clarence Offers Continuous Learning
The software company Clarence brought its Co-Pilot and in-car assist to the CES for us to see what it can do. This system gets you connected and continuously learns where you go and what you need to ensure you stay out of a collision. This system is integrated with car sensors and data to understand the environment inside and around the vehicle. This system can control smart home devices, authorize payments for in-car purchases, and remind you that your car needs maintenance to make sure you take care of your car the right way.
Blackberry Brings the Digital Cockpit Solution
In partnership with Patio, the internet of vehicle services comes from this pair to give us the development and integration of Amazon Web Services. This is one of the most forward-thinking automotive innovations we’ll see coming to the vehicles we want to enjoy and drive. The addition of the Electra Vehicle’s EVE-Ai 360 Adaptive Controls offers the state of charge, health, and predicted vehicle range. This system delivers a complete package of electronics to help you have the most connected and impressive experience on the road.
Will your future car include some of these automotive innovations? It certainly could. Will you have an autonomous vehicle or one that connects everything to give you the highest level of entertainment possible?
