Luxury Car Brands Entering the EV Market: What to Expect

More and more luxury car brands are entering the EV market, giving us some excellent models to choose from. Recently, some brands have changed course.

As the EV market surged, many luxury brands announced they would make only electric vehicles going forward. Some have changed this tune to add more hybrid models or stick with smaller turbocharged gas engines for longer. The EV market’s initial surge is basically over and consumers are looking for something more than a novelty item.

With that in mind, these are the best luxury electric cars, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Tesla Model 3

Not everyone looks at the Tesla Model 3 as a luxury vehicle, but it certainly is. This little electric sedan has an impressive driving range, excellent handling, and brisk acceleration. You’ll also find a generously large cargo area in the rear, making the Model 3 a good EV for a small family. The minimalist cabin and complex infotainment setup might not be to your liking, but that’s part of this Tesla package. There are three powertrain offerings for the Model 3, giving you several great choices when you want to drive an EV.

Lucid Air

The Lucid name is one of the newest luxury car brands, and it’s only found in the EV market, making the Air a unique car. Lucid figured out driving range and delivers more of it in the Air lineup than any other brand has to offer. This car is potent, spacious, attractive, and packed with tech items for your driving pleasure. Unfortunately, the Lucid Air is one of the most expensive EVs in the market, making it an exclusive model for those drivers who can afford it.

BMW i7

The BMW i7 is the electric version of the venerable 7 Series sedan. This car is exactly what you expect from BMW in an EV at the top of the sedan lineup. You’ll find commanding speed and acceleration, impressive handling, and a comfortable cabin. The infotainment system is a bit of a double-edged sword; it’s sophisticated and packed with features, but it can be difficult to learn and understand. Some of the cabin controls can be distracting, and the BMW i7 is one of the most expensive luxury EVs available.

Polestar 2

Another new name among luxury car brands is Polestar. This brand is an offshoot of Volvo, giving us an excellent addition to the EV market. This impressive electric sedan is appealing and packed with impressive driving range for your time on the road. The well-rounded nature and quick acceleration make the Polestar 2 a good choice. You’ll admire the intuitive infotainment system but will be faced with a lower driving range than expected in this car. Polestar also gives this car a sporty bend with a firm ride and performance suspension.

Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is unique as a true sports car in the EV world. This electric performance machine quickly became one of the best-selling Porsche models when it arrived. Going into next year, the Taycan will receive significant upgrades to give it a more refined driving experience and improved performance. The Taycan is not the most efficient or affordable luxury electric car, but it is one of the most impressive and fun to drive.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan

Like the i7, the EQS sedan is the electric version of the venerable Mercedes-Benz S-Class and one of the best models available. Mercedes-Benz has been adding more models to be a leader among luxury car brands in the EV market. The EQS sedan was one of the first to arrive, providing the opulent cabin you expect to go along with impressive driving performance, amazing driving range, and a large cargo area. Like the BMW, this Merc has a complicated infotainment system, and it’s an expensive choice among EV models.

Genesis Electrified G80

The well-received G80 goes electric with this admirable sedan. This car is extremely quick and packed with impressive features that make it an excellent choice when you want to drive a great luxury car with an electric powertrain. You’ll love the well-crafted cabin, enjoy smooth acceleration, and admire how quickly the battery recharges. The Genesis Electrified G80 has a small trunk and less range than some rivals, which could be a challenge for some drivers. Overall, this G80 is a great choice when searching for an electric sedan in the luxury market.

These are just a few of the impressive choices offered by luxury car brands in the EV market. As technology and battery chemistry improve, luxury brands will offer more robust options. Which of these EVs do you want to drive?
