People are rightfully more concerned about winter performance with EVs than gas-burning cars. The problem isn’t how they handle snowy roads, which can be addressed using technologies like all-wheel drive. The primary issue plaguing most drivers is how the cold affects batteries.

Electric Mercedes Cars Feature Advanced AWD
Though few observers had any doubts about the Mercedes GLC’s capabilities on snowy roads, the automaker was able to showcase how the SUV’s advanced 4MATIC AWD impacted the traction, ride, and handling.
AWD electric GLC models have powerful front-axle drive units that can be toggled on and off using a Disconnect Unit as needed. Sensors detect spinning wheels and then distribute torque accordingly. Since the electric GLC’s two motors are independently controlled, the driving force remains optimized.
The electric drive unit on the rear axle delivers impressive power, and both front and rear units are equipped with high-performance electronics that feature cutting-edge silicon carbide inverters.
Exceptional Braking System Maintains Control
Mercedes’ innovative braking system for the electric GLC combines the brake booster, master cylinder, and ESP control into one module to provide a more confident feel and deliver consistent feedback even on snowy or icy roads.
As an EV, the electric GLC utilizes regenerative braking to recuperate brake energy and augment the SUV’s range. The newly reconceptualized braking system means drivers get a confident feel when using regenerative braking, and the system features a hydraulic fallback to ensure safe stopping.
Impressive Range and Quick Charging
The Mercedes electric GLC features cutting-edge battery technology that allows it to maintain its range even in cold conditions. The 800-volt architecture optimizes efficiency and performance to reduce charging times.
