While these two rigs have some similarities, there are also some significant differences.

Read on to learn more about how the GMC Terrain and Acadia compare.

Under The Hood

The Acadia is equipped with a standard 2.0-liter turbo engine that creates 228 horsepower. This setup earns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined. You can also get this SUV with a 3.6-liter V6 that boasts 310 horsepower and earns 22 mpg combined.

The GMC Terrain only comes with one engine option: a 1.5-liter turbo engine that makes 170 horsepower. With the front-wheel-drive drivetrain, this SUV gets an EPA-estimated 27 mpg (26 with AWD).

The Acadia may offer more power, but the Terrain is better on gas mileage. Of course, neither SUV is deficient in either area.

The Size That Matters

SUVs come in all shapes and sizes and meet a number of needs. The GMC Acadia is a midsize SUV that can seat either six or seven passengers across its three rows. It offers a total cargo volume of 12.8 cubic feet behind the last row and 79 cubic feet when the rear rows are folded down.

The GMC Terrain is a compact SUV that looks and feels smaller than the Acadia. The Terrain can seat up to five people across two rows. It provides 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the last row and 63.6 cubes when the back row is folded into the down position.

What’s Included

For the most part, the GMC Terrain and Acadia come with a similar list of standard features. There are, however, a few differences. The Acadia’s touchscreen infotainment center is eight inches, while the Terrain’s is only seven inches. The Terrain’s infotainment center includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, while the Acadia still requires wires to use this feature.

Both vehicles come with a huge list of driver-assist features as part of GMC’s Pro Safety package. The Acadia comes with a few additional features, like rear-park assist. The Terrain can also get these extra features, but they can only be obtained as add-ons.

How Much Do They Cost?

As expected, the GMC Terrain has a lower MSRP than the Acadia. The Acadia starts at $35,995 at the low end and $49,795 for the upper-level Denali. The GMC Terrain starts at $29,095 and goes up to $37,795 for the Denali.

Both of these GMC SUVs offer incredible performance, equipment, and style at an affordable price. Which one is right for you depends on what you’re looking for.
