The recent Detroit Auto Show is where the Ram team showed off one of the most impressive and powerful versions of the Ram 3500HD that we\u2019ve ever seen.<\/strong><\/em>
\nThis new truck sets the standard at the top of the lineup to give you a full 1,000lb.-ft. of torque. This number is a massive improvement over the past and gives us the chance to have the highest torque number in the industry for a truck of this size. Since torque is what you need to move the load, this number allows you to pull a lot more with the Ram 3500HD at only 1,800 rpm.<\/p>\n

More Torque, Same Size Engine<\/h2>\n

The mountainous number of twist that\u2019s derived from the Ram 3500HD comes when choosing the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel six-cylinder engine that comes in two different forms. In its standard form, it gives you 370 horsepower and 850lb.-ft. of torque, which is an impressive power level, but the higher-output version is what you want for the biggest jobs. In the more powerful form, this engine makes 400 horsepower and 1,000lb.-ft. of torque to give you the ability to tow up to 35,100 pounds.<\/p>\n

Changes made by Ram<\/h2>\n

The Ram team made some serious upgrades to give you the power level you want in this truck. The team upgraded the transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, axle, frame, radiator, induction system, and exhaust system to bring the number to four digits for the torque. The front end of the truck<\/a> was even upgraded to make this truck offer this impressive number with a new grill that can go around the radiator to cool the engine that pushes out the power number that you can certainly admire when you hitch up a load.<\/p>\n

An Improved Ram Engine<\/h2>\n

In order to accommodate the torque number, the Ram engine had to be upgraded with a stronger material. Ram uses a new compacted graphite iron which is more durable than conventional iron and it\u2019s also thinner and lighter. This gives you a stronger engine and it does this without reducing the strength of the engine while also handling the noise and vibrations better. You\u2019ll also find improved exhaust valves and upgraded rocker arms as well to give this engine a much stronger build.
