The comparison of new versus old is one we’ve had in the automotive market for most of the decades cars have been around. Whether customers want the old model that’s proved it has been the right choice for several years or the new model that’s built to take over some of the market has been a challenge in the industry over the course of time. We have this challenge presented to us once again in the form of the comparison between the BMW 540i and the new to the market Genesis G80 Sport which are extremely close in what they offer.
BMW 540i
Over the course of time, BMW has been able to build and refine the 5 series to be more comfortable while continuing to be a sport-tuned car that is dynamic and agile on the road. This car brings you items you’ll admire and enjoy such as soft-close doors, quilted Nappa leather, quad-zone automatic climate controls, a fragrance dispenser, rear window shades, a heated steering wheel, massaging front seats and ceramic-coated controls. This car feels substantial and expensive with plenty of space for passengers and their cargo to make sure you can have what you want in your drive.
Under the hood, you’ll be greeted with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that offers the benefit of turbocharging to produce 335 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive system that uses GPS data o select which gear to use when paired to the adaptive suspension system. This is a car that offers you the driving modes you want in order to have the right model for the way you want to drive on the road or on the track in a car that’s truly comfortable and impressive.
Genesis G80 Sport
If you’re familiar with what the Hyundai Genesis of old brought, this is the same car with some upgraded qualities. This new car offers carbon fiber trim features on the inside, is an excellent car to drive and has a spacious cabin. You’ll get to enjoy the sunroof, the heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, a 17-speaker sound system, a plethora of driver assistance technologies that include a heads-up display to help you on the drive. This is a car that’s attractive and easy for you to admire wherever you go.
When you turn the key and feel the drive and the quality of the powertrain you’ll be pleasantly greeted by the 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 365 horsepower and 376 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is also mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission to allow you the ability to have the shifting and smooth ride you want to experience on the road. This car does tip the scales at nearly 600 pounds more than the BMW to be a car that feels more substantial but less agile than the BMW when you head out on the road.
The Difference in the Decision
Even if you feel like these two cars are basically the same and have a hard time making the choice between the two, the difference in price could become a huge factor. The new Genesis G80 Sport comes on at a price of nearly $55,000 while the BMW 540i tips the scales in a much higher way with a price of $70,000. If the price isn’t a consideration for you then you’ll have to decide which one of these cars is going to be right for you on the roads that you have to drive on a daily basis.
