Taking Ford Performance Fun to the Track

Taking Ford Performance Fun to the Track

In partnership with Castrol Edge performance products, the Ford team decided it was time to see how their performance models would work out on the track together. There are eight different performance models that made their way to the Motorland race circuit near Barcelona, Spain to see how they could perform when it was time to head out for a great ride around the track. In an effort to see if the different models could hold their spot around a loop of the track, the Ford team decided to have a staggered time trial.

In order to make sure these cars would be pushed to the test, the Ford Chip Ganassi Team drivers were put behind the wheel during some time off from their normal racing to see how these cars would do and what they thought of the drive around the track. Using video that was taken by three camera crews, a drone, and 16 GoPro cameras, this team was able to film the race and have a great time out on the road to let us see what these eight performance models could be when they took to the track together.

The Vehicles and the Race

All eight of the drivers involved in this race have time behind the wheel of the Ford GT race car that’s been developed to enter and potentially win several of the most popular events around the world. The drivers in the vehicles chosen included Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell, Olivier Pla, and Stefan Mucke who participate in the World Endurance Championships along with Dirk Muller, Joey Hand, Richard Westbrook, and Ryan Briscoe from the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship. These eight drivers got behind the wheel to see how they could enjoy the fun out on the track.

The eight vehicles chose and the order they were released from the line for the staggered race are the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ford Fiesta ST 2017, Ford Fiesta ST 2018, Ford Focus RS, Ford Mustang GT, Ford Mustang GT350R, Ford GT, and Ford GT Racecar. The final vehicle was released from the line a full 48 seconds after the first left from the start. This may seem like it would be a bit of an unfair advantage, but you can see in the video below, there was certainly some fun and performance these racers got to have together.

While I won’t give away the results of the one-lap race, what’s interesting is to hear some of these drivers who were amazed by the performance of the vehicles from the Raptor to the hatchbacks that were on the track. The Mustangs and GTs were certainly expected to perform with a sports car enthusiasm, but the Fiestas, Focus, and Raptor certainly gave a great run and allowed their drivers to enjoy a fast lap in cars and a truck that are built to hold the corners and give the performance desired for the drive around this incredible track. Check out the video and enjoy the race between these racers and these impressive vehicles.
