If so, you’re going to want to see some of these amazing locations that can be perfect for you to get a fright and hear stories of what has created these ghost towns that have been abandoned over several years.

Glastenbury, Vermont

This 19th-century ghost town is surrounded by legends of strange disappearances and disasters. Between 1945 and 1950 at least four people went missing while walking in the nearby woods. The farming efforts of the community repeatedly failed, leading to speculation that the area is cursed.

Livermore, New Hampshire

Founded in the mid-1880s as a logging community, Livermore was abandoned in 1946 after a smallpox epidemic swept through the community. It should be safe for you to visit this town and see the abandoned areas that have overgrown since 1946.

Flagstaff Village, Maine

When you’re looking for Flagstaff Village, you’ll have to visit Lake Flagstaff and row out on a boat to find the ghost town village. Flagstaff Village sits at the bottom of the lake after it was drowned by the construction of Long Falls Dam in 1950.

Dogtown, Massachusetts

If you want to visit a town that’s steeped in legends of witchcraft and the supernatural, Dogtown will be the place to go. This ghost town was settled in 1693 and was constantly under attack by pirates and hostile natives. After the main population moved away, vagrants and wild dogs moved in.

Batso Village, New Jersey

This town was founded in 1766 as a mining town and is now owned by the state of New Jersey. Batso’s 32-room mansion is a popular location for historical reenactments and exploration and it can be a fun place for you to enjoy the abandoned areas.

Centralia, Pennsylvania

One abandoned ghost town that is still a bit dangerous is Centralia. This town had to be deserted after a coal vein opened and began burning uncontrollably in 1962. There’s a colorful “graffiti highway” that leads to the abandoned town.

St. Mary’s College, Maryland

St. Mary’s College might not be a true town but it is a ghost town all the same. Opened in 1862 this religious school and seminary were closed down in 1972 and became a place where vandals and troublemakers found entertainment. The main building burned down but some parts remain.

Thurmond, West Virginia

Currently, there are five residents and one tiny hotel in Thurmond. The hotel, called the Dun Glen, was the site of the world’s longest-lasting poker game. This poker game continued without interruption for 14 years. Can you imagine playing one game for that long?

Henry River Mill Village, North Carolina

One ghost town in North Carolina that you might want to visit is Henry River Mill Village. This was the shooting location for District 12 in “The Hunger Games” and is home to a 19th-century mill town that was abandoned in 1977. You might consider this town to be a beautifully scenic town.
