The Honda Civic Hybrid is Back for 2025

The Honda Civic Hybrid is Back for 2025

The Honda Civic has been without a hybrid powertrain for ten years. Now, Honda has announced a new hybrid iteration coming in 2025.

Stretching back to 1972, the Honda Civic has been at the forefront of cheap and reliable transportation for the masses. A popular sight on used car lots, the Civic has maintained its peerless reputation. Now in its 11th generation, the Civic’s popularity certainly hasn’t waned over its 52-year lifespan.

The Honda Civic Hybrid was launched in 2002 and was produced until 2015 when it entered its 10-year hiatus. Now, Honda has promised to bring back the Civic Hybrid alongside a facelift for all Civic models, promising updated style and technology.

Updated Styling Inside and Out

The most noticeable exterior change for the 2025 Honda Civic is the more aggressive front fascia. The front bumper and grille gain a more muscular look, reminiscent of the current Civic Type R. New wheels are incoming, with the recently released photos of the 2025 Civic Hybrid showcasing an all-new rim design. The cabin is also due to be updated, although Honda has yet to release images or specs regarding interior updates. Technology is expected to be refreshed as well, but Honda is again holding its cards close to its chest regarding tech upgrades.

Hybrid Powertrain for 2025

Honda reports they will use a similar powertrain configuration to the current CR-V and Accord hybrids. The Honda Civic currently offers a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. Whether or not one of the current engines will gain a hybrid powertrain or if an entirely new engine will join the lineup is currently up for debate. While it’s unlikely Honda will use its current 2.0-liter engine, a 1.5-liter inline-four will most likely be the selected motor, given the Honda Insight used a 1.5-liter hybrid setup until its discontinuation in 2022.

Options and Trim Levels

We don’t know much about what sort of trims the hybrid will be offered with. If current Honda hybrid trim levels are to be followed, Honda most likely will provide the hybrid powertrain on higher-trimmed Civics. The recently released publicity photos for the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid show a Civic Hybrid Sport Touring, which is currently one of the top-of-the-line trim levels.

The Japanese automaker hopes the Honda Civic Hybrid will make up roughly 40 percent of all Civic sales. While details are still sparse, Honda has stated they expect to offer the 2025 Civic Hybrid by the summer of 2024, so only a few months separate us from seeing the finished product in full detail. Do you see yourself hopping into a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid this summer?
