Contrasting Speedsters

The hottest car on the market right now is the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, beating out even its cousin, the Dodge Charger. This is the car that has captured our attention and has us looking for the performance and precision we want to enjoy on the track. The Demon is a car that harkens back to the days of the early muscle cars with its beefed up fenders and incredible look that’s balanced with a generous serving of the latest technology. With this car, you can spend around $85,000 and have the ability to rip off a quarter-mile time of ten seconds or less. Very few cars at this price can lay claim to this statistic.

If you thought the Dodge Demon was the only way to have a vehicle that could make this incredible run, you’d be wrong. There are some impressive motorcycles on the market that are also able to make their way down the drag strip and finish the run in less than ten seconds. The Japanese brands of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha all have at least one superbike each that can get the job done. These one-liter superbikes are a serious contrast to what you find in the Demon, but they provide the thrill you want as well.

Where did Superbikes Come From?

Do you remember the gas crisis and over the top emissions regulations of the 1970s? Even if you don’t remember this time in automotive history, it was a dark time and those high-powered muscle cars that had come out of Detroit were sidelined because of the new regulations. As automakers scrambled to figure out what they needed to do, the motorcycle brands emerged victorious with the motorcycles that would provide the fun and excitement we wanted to enjoy. The Honda CB750 was the first of these superbikes that could make this fast run and the others followed quickly.

While you might think spending $20,000 on a motorcycle is a lot, it’s less per wheel than what you spend for the Demon and you’re going to have the fun of racing down the strip on a bike that can reach the quarter-mile in ten seconds or less. While the Demon has a look that harkens back to days of old, the superbikes offered are modern rockets on two wheels that can give you the speed you want when you straddle the Suzuki GSX-R1000, which is all new for 2017 and ready to give you an amazing ride.

Why Not Both?

If you’re a speed junkie and know you’re going to spend as much as six figures to get the vehicle you want for the race, you could have both. Between the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and one of the superbikes from the big four names from Japan, you can spend just a little over $100,000 and have two vehicles that can finish the quarter mile in less than ten seconds. You’ll have more fun and be able to take on the racing you want as often as possible with the combination of the two.
