Chevrolet Can Stop Playing Coy

2019 Chevy Corvette

The worst kept secret in the automotive industry is the fact that a Corvette is on the way that has the engine positioned behind the seats.
While we still don’t know when this car will make its appearance on the market, the fact that it’s been spotted in a variety of spy shots around the country makes it nearly impossible for the Chevrolet team to continue to deny the fact that this car will be offered in the future. Some of the newest photos we’ve seen are of the C8.R model of this amazing new car.

Getting Ready to Race

The Chevrolet Corvette has been a car used for racing for many years and the car that was recently spotted is the race-spec model of the C8 that was spotted testing at Road America ahead of its racing debut. This car will begin to make its way around the tracks of the world during the 2020 racing season. This car shows up with a massive set of side air intakes, an angular wedge-shaped front end, and an extremely narrow set of taillights in the rear. So far, we don’t know exactly which engine is being used under the hood, but we can make some guesses.

The Engine Speculation of the Corvette

If we are to speculate about which engine is being used, we’d likely think it’s the Small Block V8 of some sort. The massive side intakes give us a hint that this V8 engine is one that has an incredible level of power for the drive. The CAD drawings that were leaked earlier this year show this engine as one that’s a twin-turbocharged DOHC that may be called the LT7 when it shows up and allows us to have the impressive drive we want when we take this car to the track.

More Details About the New Corvette

The CAD drawings that were leaked show us some of the details about the transaxle of the mid-engine Corvette that will be offered in the next couple of years. The racecar will also get a transaxle, but it will most likely be a sequential transmission and won’t be related to the road car in any way. Even so, the road car is expected to receive a dual-clutch transmission to handle the shifting and allow us to have a drive that will be the fun we’ve been waiting for.

Expect to See This Car Soon

The mid-engine C8 Corvette is scheduled to make its arrival at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show and the race version is expected to be shown off at the same time. The racecar does look different from the road-going model with its wild aero kit that’s added to make this a car that can take the checkered flag. As we look forward to the final winter show in Detroit, this is a car that just might melt the snow and ice and turn the Detroit area into a summer festival of fun with the heat that these two versions of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette bring.
