Ford is Taking the F-150 Hybrid

Everywhere you look, more hybrid models are being offered to give us better fuel mileage and more power than we’ve had in the past.

With regulations pushing for lower emissions, smaller engines, and better efficiency, its more important than ever that larger vehicles take advantage of the benefits of hybrid powertrains. Ford has been rumored to be adding a hybrid model of the F-150 to the mix for the next generation. This means we could see a model that has the right power for the work you need to get done while offering you the benefits of greater fuel mileage.

The F-150 Hybrid is Coming Soon

News has surfaced that informs us that we don’t have to wait until the next generation of the Ford F-150 is offered to give us a hybrid powertrain in this truck. This news has been confirmed and allows us to know that this new version of the F-150 will arrive for the 2021 model year. The traditional aspect of this powertrain will be the 3.5-liter V6 engine which will be attached to an electric motor to give you the power you want. This is the expected setup for the new F-150 that will be right for your drive.

Ford is Keeping Things Quiet

We don’t know a lot about the new Ford F-150 with the hybrid powertrain. The powertrain is listed to be a 3.5-liter V6 HEV which is an abbreviation for Hybrid Electric Vehicle. We don’t have much else as far as the information you want including power and torque. If we had to guess, we would say this setup will be a single motor layout to the front axle to give you the power you want where you want it. The engine will likely be a turbocharged model to allow you to have a combined output of 410 horsepower.

Adding Power to the F-150

What will it mean to have a powerful hybrid powertrain for the Ford F-150? While this new version might not seem like more than a nod to those that want to save fuel if the power levels come in where we expect them to, it won’t be long before the hybrid models will be the right ones to drive instead of the F-150 trucks that have larger engines that currently have more power. This could mean the end of some of the naturally aspirated engines for the F-150.

A Bit More Ford Info

As we looked at the engine list for the 2021 model year, there wasn’t a diesel engine listed at all. This could mean that we won’t see a diesel engine for this new model year, but it could also show you that we’ll have a new diesel powertrain for the drive. Right now, the Powerstroke 3.0-liter V6 engine makes 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque. The Ford F-150 continues to be the truck that we admire for the work we need to get done and soon, your local Ford dealer will have a hybrid model to offer.
