American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) and GMC have collaborated again, this time with a concept truck called the AEV GMC Sierra Grande. This is a bulked-up flatbed, two-door HD truck that looks incredibly expedition-ready. But don’t start calling your GMC dealer just yet, this is only a concept build right now. Unlike other GMC/AEV collaborations, it isn’t slated to enter production.
GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV Edition Leveled Up
Essentially, this truck is from the GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X AEV Edition. It’s based on the AEV Prospector XL combined with a long-bed GMC Sierra 2500 HD with a Duramax diesel engine and a regular cab layout. Neither one of these vehicles exists by itself, so the combination is a true unicorn that can’t be found anywhere outside of the upcoming 2023 SEMA Show, where it will be on display at the AEV booth.
The combo has been dubbed the Sierra Grande, and it uses a lot of parts from the aforementioned 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X AEV Edition, but that truck only comes in a four-door crew cab layout. Some of the parts used include a stamped-steel front bumper, underbody skid-plate protection, rear suspension, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and the same control arms and steering knuckles.
The AT4X parts mean that the base truck has a 1.5-inch lift over the regular GMC 2500 HD and it also means that it can fit 35-inch tires. However, the Sierra Grande manages 40-inch BFG tires with AEV HighMark fender flares.
Flatbed Layout
Instead of modifying the bed, the AEV crew installed an eight-foot aluminum tray flatbed that includes a spare tire mount near the cab. This gives the Sierra Grande a distinct overlanding aesthetic that stands out. Additional parts include an AEV brush guard decked out with four AEV 7000-series off-road lights, plus an AEV snorkel and a GM Performance front winch rated at 12,500 pounds.
The mods don’t end there. The Sierra Grande also adds a custom AEV rear bumper with an extra rear winch that is rated for 9,500 pounds. The truck is outfitted in custom green paint that has a slight gray cast to it. A plethora of Sierra Grande, AEV, and AT4X badges decorate various areas on the truck.
One big takeaway from this truck is that the new GMC HD models can indeed run 40-inch tires, but you, unfortunately, won’t be finding this as a factory offering at your GMC dealer.
2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition At Dealers Now
However, the truck that the Sierra Grande is based on should be arriving at your GMC dealer soon. It may already be there. The truck was announced earlier in the year and was slated for arrival at dealers in the fall. It may not be as monstrous as the Sierra Grande, but it’s still a pretty capable and aggressive truck.
Pricing for the AEV Edition trucks wasn’t available earlier in the year, but you can check with your GMC dealer for the most current numbers.
